The two most commonly used temperature scales in the world are Celsius and Fahrenheit scales. For quick conversion of Fahrenheit to Celsius and Celsius to Fahrenheit you can use our online temperature converter, that is created based on the conversion formula. If you would like to know how the two scales work and how the formula is implemented, below you will find some interesting information about Fahrenheit and Celsius scales.

Fahrenheit is mostly used in the USA. Apart from USA there are some other countries that also use the Fahrenheit temperature scale such as American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, Palau, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and Belize. First time this temperature scale was proposed by a German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. This scale was used in the English-speaking world until 1960s. But it was replaced by a Celsius temperature scale when most of these countries have shifted to metric conversion.

The following formula is used for conversion of Celsius to Fahrenheit:

tF = tC x 9/5 + 32

The following formula is used for conversion of Fahrenheit to Celsius:

tC = (tF - 32) x 5/9

And here are some interesting facts about Celsius and Fahrenheit scales:

  • German scientist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit introduced Fahrenheit temperature scale in 1724.
  • Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius proposed the famous Celsius scale in 1742.
  • According to the Fahrenheit scale the melting point of ice is +32°F and according to Celsius it is 0°C.
  • In Fahrenheit the boiling point of water is +212 °F, and in celsius +100°C.
  • Those using the celsius scale consider +37°C a normal human body temperature. In Fahrenheit the normal human body temperature is +98.6°F.
  • The Fahrenheit scale coincides with the Celsius scale at 40 degrees: -40°F= -40°C
  • Canada uses both Fahrenheit and Celsius scales. The ovens in Canada often use the Fahrenheit scale. 350 Fahrenheit to Celsius on Canadian (Fahrenheit) ovens equals approximately 180 degrees Celsius (+176.667°C).
